Dundee and Angus is just 90 minutes away from 90% of the Scottish population and is officially Scotland’s sunniest city with 1,523 hours of sunshine per annum. The city is compact making it easy for delegates to navigate – at the same time, Dundee is closer to the countryside than any other Scottish city.

There is an amazing range of venues for conference dinners, receptions, tours and partner programmes including castles, gin distilleries, golf courses aplenty - a staggering 30 across the region - and heritage attractions.

There is a £1 billion cultural transformation of Dundee’s waterfront ongoing including the newly opened V&A Dundee, the only museum of design built outside of London, which opened in September 2018; along with a £14 million investment in a new train station; and several new hotels including Sleeperz Hotel, Hotel Indigo and to follow later, a 150 room hotel by Marriott opposite the V&A Dundee (opening date to be confirmed).

The area is also renowned as a centre of excellence across several sectors including life sciences research, computer games and digital media, arts, business, education, hi-tech manufacturing and telecommunications.

Creative Industries

Creative industries in Dundee produce a total annual turnover of £190m* and provide employment for 3 000 in a city with a population of 150k.

Dundee is the UK’s first City of Design – recognised by UNESCO for its diverse contributions to several fields including medical research, comics and video games. It joins only 12 cities around the world which have been awarded this designation – such as Beijing, Berlin, Montreal, Helsinki and Bilbao.

Dundee has been home for over 100 years to publishers D C Thomson – creators of iconic comics The Beano and The Dandy.

Life Sciences

The city has one of the world’s densest cluster of scientists and businesses in a three-mile radius and it continues to attract the world’s brightest and best.

Dundee is Scotland's leading centre for drug discovery and the city’s academic leaders have an established reputation for international excellence in drug development.

The University of Dundee is the world’s most influential pharmaceuticals research institution, according to a major global survey that places it ahead of the likes of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California Berkeley.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Dundee has the fewest barriers to entrepreneurship in the world and has the fastest business set up time in Europe according to the World Bank.

Elevator and the University of Dundee have entered into a unique partnership to create Dundee’s first Centre of Entrepreneurship facility – it’s the first academic Institution in Scotland to have a bespoke business accelerator programme, designed, created and hosted on campus.

The highest ranked UK institution for its role in influencing innovation is the University of Dundee according to the Nature Index 2017 – it ranks ahead of Harvard and Yale.


The venue will be the Apex City Quay Hotel which sits next to the river with beautiful views of the V&A Dundee, RRS Discovery and the HMS Unicorn. Located in the centre of the city, public transport links are 5-10 minutes walk away and there are good links with both Dundee and Edinburgh airport.
